As a final hoorah in Bali and the very last stop of our year of non stop travel, Watermark hotel and spa Bali
treated us to a very extravagant and relaxing stay at their Jimbaran property. Where is Jimbaran? Well its in the South of the Island, 5 minutes from Denpasar Airport and just far enough out of the Hustle and Bustle of Kuta that you can get some peace and quiet but still nip out for some shopping if you need to.
Jimbaran is also home of the beach-side-seafood feast. People travel from all over Bali to select their fish/crustaceans/oysters fresh out of the tank to be cooked on the spot. Most of the restaurants will have their tables set up under lights right on the beach and you might even have your toes in the water on high tide while you eat. The only problem is- if you don’t eat, or don’t like seafood there is literally nothing but rice and maybe salad for you to eat. You’ve been warned!
Those who have followed our journey know that we started out as budget travellers, saving money on creature comforts in order to have more to spend on adventures and experiences and prolong the journey.
Our journey has softened us over the months however, and we did start to crave fluffy towels, plump pillows and a soak in a tub.
Enter Watermark hotel and Spa Bali
! This Japanese fusion hotel has all the trimmings for the rejuvenating stay we needed. Our Suite was large at 64square meters, with a large balcony with a view over the pool and gardens.
The deep blue sofa, topped with golden throw pillows and the wooden and golden trimmings throughout the room gave us an opulent natural feeling. I loved that they didn’t shy away from colours but managed to do so in such an elegant and natural feeling way.
The little extras really made our suite perfect- a personal dolce gusto coffee machine, with different styles of coffee pods available for our use. A comfortable office nook for me to work on the blog, an immersion bath tub and a good enough set of toiletries to really enable you to have a bubble bath! Have you ever attempted to enjoy a bubble bath at a hotel, only to use the entire bottle of bath gel and end up with 8 bubbles for all your efforts?? Well I have! I was happy to enjoy an amazing soak in the Watermark Hotel and Spa Suite Bathroom.
Our very own water cooler topped the list- I am probably the thirstiest gal you’ll ever meet, but I’m also very environmentally conscious. This means I HATE buying plastic bottles of water, even in developing countries. That’s why I bought my steripen and always have a refillable bottle close by. I was very chuffed when I saw the water filter- kudos to Watermark
for making saving the world (the environment) that little more comfortable.
To get us out of our beautiful suite, the Watermark Hotel and Spa
lured us into not one, but two swimming pools- one complete with a waterfall feature, the other located on the rooftop with a view over the Southern tip of Bali. The roof top pool has shaded cabanas and a cocktail bar so you can relax in complete comfort in the shade or sunshine with drink in hand.
For food, you’re completely taken care of within the Hotel should you feel weary of the outside world. The Watermark Hotel and Spa Bali is home to 3 dining options, Imadoki Restaurant, W Senses Restaurant and Angelique Cafe for quick bites and coffee.
We dined at Imadoki Restaurant and were so very impressed with the menu and quality of the food. Having just come back from Japan we were happy to see some really traditional items on the menu, the presentation, and the taste was sensational. The service we received at Imadoki was also first class. Everything was very Japanese- even the way our waitresses approached and backed away from our table without turning away from us. I swear they must have a sixth sense to not back into anyone when they do that.
The only fault I have to share with you is that we did find a little bit of plastic in our sushi, which we were hesitant to mention because of how great everything else was- but honesty is the best policy so I will always be honest with you guys. The beautiful girls at the restaurant replaced our dish immediately and without question. They also removed the item from our bill – all amongst the most profuse apologies. Accidents do happen and I really do urge you to visit this restaurant to sample some great Japanese food and amazing service.
We had breakfast at W Senses Restaurant on Italian and Indonesian Morning- there is a different theme each day. Both days were great but I definitely recommend not leaving it to the last minute as we did! There are so many tasty treats you just don’t want to miss out on. There is also cooked-to-order eggs, and pancakes which were amazing every time we visited.
Other Features include a private beach club, free shopping mall transfers, kids club, luxurious day spa onsite, gift shop, and a well equipped fitness centre for those gym junkies!
